This publication provides news and review articles on recent developments in rabbit meat production science, providing this information directly to the rabbit producers. This work continues the tradition of the great astronomer Gallileo, who democratically distributed scientific information directly to the people, without such dissemination under the direct control of the scientific establishment.
The mission of this publication is to help reduce the growing delay in getting new research information to the production level, by providing rabbit producers on the large continents with up-to-date research and reviews of developments in rabbit science, without the time and expense of travelling to far-away conferences. "Conferences" are also one of the usual means by which the establishment controls the dissemination of scientific information. Please support freedom of information in science - subscribe now!
Dear Reader,
Thank you for visiting this web site! You have found it - your best
source for up-to-date rabbit science information!
For only US$15 per year, I give you the opportunity to read
the best possible articles on rabbit science and production.
Also, you get the perspective of someone (myself) with actual
rabbit production experience, 17 years in commercial production.
Yes, these issues cost you a few dollars, but they SAVE you
many times the cost in improved production and improved welfare
for your rabbits.
You get the most up-to-date information possible, for example:
* The December 1996 issue explained how chemotherapy (copper sulfate)
has been employed to prop up deficient rabbit diets across N. America,
and in another article, presented the most comprehensive review on
receptivity in rabbits published to date, not even surpassed by the
main review paper on this topic in the 7th World Rabbit Congress
in July, 2000.
* The December 1997 issue presented the most complete set of
calculations yet available to calculate profitability in a rabbitry, and
presented the first rabbit cycle circular calendar that actually WORKS!
* The December 1998 issue gave photographic evidence of how rabbits
chew fibrous material, gave a first actual look into the process by
which rabbits regulate feed intake and presented some recommendations
on particle size for various feed components. The "synthesis" part
of this review article was presented in an international conference on
rabbits held in North Sinai, Egypt, September 1999, as "Feed Particle
Size and Caecal Function: Some New Perspectives."
* The review on behaviour in the Summer 2000 issue illustrated why
rabbits must have a material such as straw as a background to their
environment and why it will probably never be possible to make a
truly "complete" rabbit feed. This article also clears up the
confusion between cage size and stocking density, shows why caecal
motility and locomotion (of the rabbit) are closely related, what
is a main cause of kits found on the cage floor and in entrance to
the nest and shows the most probable pathway for the young rabbits
acquiring the caecal flora essential for digestion.
* In the December 2001 issue, an article on enterocolitis sums up
the past several year's work in solving this problem. For years, people
in Europe have wondered why rabbit production in North America never
"took off" like it did in Europe. In North America, besides
the Cute Bunny Syndrome, there was lurking in the background, the
spectre of enterocolitis which would take down any herd of decent size.
But in Europe in late 1996 and 1997 a "brown wave" swept over
the countryside, causing high losses to rabbit farms. Researchers in
Europe, employing the Scientific Method, have struggled with this problem
all these years, with no definite solution in sight. Here however, in
our research program of very small means, employing a novel technology
known as a "neural network", we have solved this problem
conclusively, and report the methods so that anyone else may verify
the results.
* These are all "firsts" in the literature, you read it here first!
--> Now, here's my no-risk guarantee - if you subscribe, then read the issues,
and then can honestly say that you knew everything in those issues already,
YOU WILL RECEIVE A FULL REFUND!
Yours truly, Robert A. McCroskey
Authors are invited to send articles for publication on any rabbit science topic, with the exception that this is a genetic engineering-free zone! The benefits to publish here are: no pages charges, no travelling cost to present your paper at a conference, a free copy of the publication and free use of the Rabbit Research Database. See Instructions to Authors
Yes! We publish student papers, from grades 4 to 9, 10 to 13, university and graduate courses! Research projects or reviews on any rabbit science or economics topic are welcome. The purpose is to promote student interest in both rabbits and science. Please inquire for more details on preparing papers for publication, use of the bibliographic database and suggestions for research projects.
